The Tan Commandments

1. Choose the right shade – this will include a lot of trial an error, but it has to to be done if you want to avoid the Oooompa Loompa look. We still haven’t found the perfect shade.
2. Body prep – exfoliate, exfoliate, exfoliate – if you fail to do this your tan won’t be even and will be patchy.
3. Moisturise – but make sure it’s not oil based as this will effect the way that the tan takes to your body. Let that dry for at least 10 minutes before you apply the tan.
4. Start from the bottom and work the way up in round circular motions, using either latex gloves or a mitt. Starting from the bottom is to prevent any bending marks whilst the tan is still wet/ drying.
5. When it comes to the face – less is more. Be careful and work out the way – the face tends to have more dry patches that the body, so pay particular attention to where they might be ie – nose and top lip.
6. WAIT – most of us are in a rush and just want to tan and go – but DO. Not. Do. THAT. If the bottle says 5 minutes, leave it for 10.
7. Clean up mistakes – Lemon juice will normally work – use it sparingly, leave on for 2 minutes and then dab a cloth onto and remove the excess.
8. Prolong it – moisturise moisturise moisturise, wash with a gentle cleanser
9. Start again – When you’re ready for a fresh new tan repeat – EXFOLIATE to get rid of any old tan.

* Fake tanning tip – to stop the tan from transferring onto your clothes and bed sheets – buy a talc free baby powder and brush it all over. Et Voila – your white might stay white.
